MOSCOW, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- English-speaking foreign experts have arrived at Habit settlement in the south of the Idlib de-escalation zone in Syria to stage a "chemical attack" using chlorine-filled rockets, Russian military said Sunday.
They were allegedly planning an attack on Kafr Zita village six km south of Habit in the next two days, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said in a statement.
The Russian center for reconciliation of warring parties in Syria received the intelligence from residents of the Idlib province on Sunday, he said.
"The interested extra-regional forces are once again preparing major provocations in Syria with the use of poisonous substances to sharply destabilize the situation and disrupt the steady dynamics of the ongoing peace process," Konashenkov said.
Western media reported that Syrian government forces used chemical weapons in Douma district near Damascus in April, but Moscow called the allegation a provocation and that the "attack" was staged.
