WARSAW, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- The Polish Handball Association (ZPRP) informed on Tuesday that the cooperation with Marcin Lijewski as head coach of the men's handball team was terminated.
Lijewski took the reins of the national team in March 29, 2023, when he replaced Patryk Rombel. He led the team in 28 matches, and his balance as a coach was 15 wins, 10 losses and 3 draws.
In January 2025, the team took the 25th position at the 2025 IHF Men's World Championship, which was seen as a huge disappointment in Poland.
"ZPRP informs about the end of cooperation with coach Marcin Lijewski. The decision was made after a thorough analysis of the coach's work. In the upcoming qualifying matches, the national team will be led by the current assistant coach, Michal Skorski," read the statement on the official website of ZPRP.
In March, Poland will play two 2026 European Men's Handball Championship qualifiers against Portugal. ■
