ADDIS ABABA, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- African Union (AU) Peace and Security Commissioner Smail Chergui on Monday called on foreign powers to stop interference in war-torn Libya.
The Libyan people have suffered enough due to the civil war and the interference of foreign powers in their country's internal affairs, Chergui told a press conference on the sidelines of the 32nd ordinary session of the assembly of the AU in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.
"All unnecessary foreign interferences should stop immediately," said Chergui.
He didn't mention the names of countries that are allegedly interfering in Libyan internal affairs to the disadvantage of the Libyan people.
Libya plunged into chaos since the ouster and killing of Muammar Gaddaafi in 2011, with two rival administrations operating in the east and west of the vast, oil-rich nation.
Also operating in Libya are an assortment of extremist militant groups, including local affiliates of the terror groups Islamic State and al-Qaeda.
