RIGA, May 19 (Xinhua) -- Course records fell as Ethiopian runners won the Tet Riga Marathon 2019 on a hot and sunny day in the Latvian capital Sunday, organizers informed.
Andulaem Belay Shiferaw won the men's race at two hours, eight minutes and 51 seconds, besting the previous course record of 2:11:00. Two Kenyan athletes - Silas Kiprono (2:12:27) and Julius Tuwei (2:14:04) - finished second and third respectively.
The women's podium finishes were all Ethiopians, as Birke Debele crossed the finish line in 2:26:18, followed by Worknesh Alemu in 2:27:38 and Kumeshi Sichala Deressa in 2:29:44. Debele's time is also a new course record for women.
The Tet Riga Marathon, which for the first year boasts the IAAF Gold Label certificate, drew over 38,000 participants from 82 countries and regions, according to the information released by the organizers.
Events of the annual mass running festival in Riga took place on two days, with Kids' Day on Saturday drawing some 13,000 young participants. Enditem
