TALUQAN, Afghanistan, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Rainstorm and flood flashes have killed at least two persons and swept up hundreds of houses in Afghanistan's northern Takhar province, provincial governor's spokesman Mohammad Jawad Hajari said Monday.
The heavy shower followed by flash floods hit Farkhar, Kalafgan and Namakab districts early Monday morning and have so far claimed the lives of a woman and her child and also injured three others, the official said.
Hundreds of houses and thousands of acres of farmlands have also been utterly washed away or badly damaged, the official added.
Rains and flooding are continuing in parts of the affected areas, Hajari said.
More than 130 people have lost their lives and more than 200 others sustained injuries, and more than 4,000 houses have been destroyed due to heavy rains and floods over the past three months in Afghanistan, according to officials.
