DHAKA, July 10 (Xinhua) -- Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday called upon all for further efforts to raise awareness among global leaders about climate change.
She made the plea while inaugurating a two-day meeting of the "Global Commission on Adaptation (GCA)" in the capital Dhaka.
Hasina also urged the world community to put more emphasis on research and investment as the climate change is fast impacting on agriculture, life and livelihood.
Former UN Secretary-General and incumbent GCA Chairman Ban Ki-moon and World Bank Chief Executive Officer Kristalina Georgieva, among other dignitaries, attended the inaugural event.
Different sessions titled "community dialogue", "action tacks - mobilising accelerated adaptation and support", and "mobilising a global audience - communication tools and events" are slated to be held during the meeting.
Bangladeshi Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen earlier said that discussions will be held on a special report on adaptation prepared by GCA and the report with high-level recommendations on adaptation will be revealed to the global community ahead of the Climate Action Summit in September.
The recommendations will include mechanisms to better combat the adverse climate change effects, he said.
