LASHKAR GAH, Afghanistan, July 17 (Xinhua) -- The Afghan army, in a wave of cleanup operation, has killed at least eight militants loyal to Taliban in the country's southern Helmand province, the military said on Wednesday.
The air-and-ground operation was conducted in the restive Kajaki district, Tuesday morning, resulting in the death of eight fighters and seizure of a high amount of arms and ammunition, according to a statement issued by Army Cops 215 Maiwand.
More than 35 militants' hideouts and trenches have also been destroyed, but no civilian has been hurt during the operation, the statement added.
The Taliban militant group has not made comments on the raid yet.
