KAMPALA, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- Burundi qualified for the second round of the 2020 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier where they will face Uganda Cranes.
The Burundi team defeated South Sudan 2-1 in a second leg game played here on Sunday, advancing on a 4-1 goal aggregate to set up a clash against Uganda next month.
South Sudan, who played here because the national stadium back home is under renovation, took an early lead through Jose Kutch Nyuar.
Two second half goals by Iddy Muselemu and Olivier Dusabe were enough to send Burundi to the next round.
"I am happy to score one of the goals that has helped the team qualify for the next stage. But we must prepare well because Uganda is a strong team," said Burundi's Dusabe after the game.
Uganda, Burundi, Ethiopia and Tanzania now join Rwanda and Sudan in the final round of the qualifiers.
Rwanda and Sudan are the two teams that will start from round 2 because they have accumulated more points in CHAN tournaments than any other team in the east and central African region.
The CHAN tournament is played by locally based players playing in the domestic leagues of the respective countries and regions. Morocco are the defending champions.
