KAMPALA, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- The head coach of Uganda's women rugby national team on Wednesday said they are ready for the 2021 Women's World Cup qualifiers that will be held in South Africa from August 9-17.
The Lady Cranes will face hosts South Africa on Friday in the opening match before facing Kenya and Madagascar on a round-robin basis.
"We have fine-tuned well and got all the possible combinations that we need. The two games we played against Kenya in the Elgon Cup also helped strengthen the team," tactician Edgar Lemerigar said.
Uganda earned one of the four spots in the South Africa showpiece, the first-ever World Cup qualifiers in Africa, on the basis of the level and frequency of play of the female players.
The best team in the tournament will directly qualify for the 2021 Women's Rugby World Cup in New Zealand. The second best team will play a match against a selected team from South America and join in the global repechage tournament if they win.
