JAKARTA, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian golf squad for the SEA Games 2019 has officially set a target of two silver medals and one bronze medal in the regional sport event in the Philippines, but said that the opportunity to get gold medal still opens, the country's golf association said on Wednesday.
The target was set on the ground that the competition in the forthcoming Games will be fierce, secretary general of the country's golf association Anthony Chandra unveiled.
"We have targeted two silver medals and one bronze medal. (But) hopefully we can secure a gold medal," he said.
"All the opponents have seriously conducted development efforts to boost capability of their athletes and they get a huge financial support from governments," Chandra said on Tuesday.
On the strength of the team, Chandra said Indonesia will rely much on young golfers during the Games which will be played in Luisita Golf and Country Club, San Miguel of Tarlac City.
For preparation, Indonesia has trained the golfers since the Asian Games 2018 and will intensify the training in August, according to the association.
Head of sport development of the association Ari Hidrijantoro said that the golfers will have four friendly matches before the SEA Games 2019.
The Indonesian squad would also fly to the Philippines ahead of the Games to test and adapt with the golf field, he cited.
Two Australian trainers Lawrie Montague and David Milne have trained Indonesian golfers, according to the association.
The 30th biennial regional multi-sport event is scheduled to be held from November 30 to December 11.
